A visiting senior United Nations official on Monday praised Pakistan's role as "a very important member" of the world body. Kim-Huk-Su, UN Under Secretary General, is due to hold talks in Islamabad on regional and global issues. Talking to a private TV channel, he welcomed Pakistan's membership in the Asian Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA) and the country's full participation in international efforts for helping the people hit by Tsunami disaster.

He said he would also discuss matters relating to Pakistan's participation in the environment minister's meeting of the UN member countries in Seoul in March.

The UN official appreciated Bio-diversity Park set up in Pakistan at Morgah Rawalpindi near here the Capital, saying the environmental project a model that other countries should follow.

The park is the first project of its kind involving public and private sector participation in consultation with other member countries, he said.
